WILDERNESS PROGRAMS

Our wilderness based leadership skills program has proven to be a rewarding, challenging and life changing for participants. At the completion of the program the participants will walk away transformed with better leadership and team skills, renewed focus, self-confidence and commitment.

The wilderness program is designed to:

  • Looks at how well we engage with other people and can we be more effective?

  • Creating situations and dynamics to allow reflection on who we really are in terms of our strengths and weakness.

  • Create deeper a bond between team members.

"This program is most effective for those that are seriously looking to improve their performance at an individual and team level!"

The Wilderness Program is a mix of learning in the following areas:
  • Team dynamics
  • Team leadership
  • Personal development
Team Dynamics
The Wilderness Program has its joys and it will certainly have its interpersonal challenges! The team will find challenges that are hard to overcome and if the team is not working well together friction could arise.

To prepare the team we include the Team Management Systems Profile (TMP) as a tool to help the team know each other better, and communicate more effectively. We also run activities to give the participants better understanding on team problem solving, 'task vs. process', team ground rules and stages of team development.
Team Leadership
Navigation and decision making is an important part of leadership in the wilderness
navigation in the bush brings a focus to decision-making and leadership
Team Leaders often confuse their roles as 'task masters' instead of facilitators of the 'process'. This situation can lead to team members being micro-managed, never reaching their potential and feeling they cannot contribute to the way the job is planned. This can cause misunderstandings, rework, poor results and conflict.

Walking up the wrong hill is never any fun just as re-doing a job is demoralising. We spend time bringing the team (and it’s leader) up to speed on process skills and managing time to get the job done. Leaders need to be able to facilitate solutions through using the power of the team. Be able to hold effective review sessions to trap learning and avoid repeat mistakes.

Personal Development
This program is designed to find out about ineffective behaviours and then learn personal strategies to correct them. The first step in changing behaviour is awareness.

Participants spend their time in an environment where we find out how we behave when dealing with people in different situations. The environment will not be effected by your attitude or communication style (the cliff stays high and the hill stays steep!). How we approach these situations and what we choose to learn is the reason why wilderness programs are so powerful.
Abseiling on a wilderness program
We may be under time pressure, at other times we will be way out of our comfort zone or find ourselves leading a repetitive task, seeking continuous improvement and trying to keep the team motivated.
Wilderness Skills
We realise that not everyone has been a Scout or is an adventure sport devotee and therefore bush skills can be nonexistent for some of the team. We will spend time teaching the skills required to move through the bush in a safe and effective manner. The wilderness skills are team based so the teambuilding goes on during these skill sessions.

All food, camping and specialised equipment will be provided for the program. Participants will only need to provide their personal clothes.
