Outdoor Insights programs were used to support a customer service skills training program delivered to Call Centre staff and as part of leadership development program with their internal Astute Managers Program.

As part of the 18 month Astute Managers Program, the participants had spent two days presenting business strategies and gaining skills in coaching.

The Outdoor Insights component of the program used challenging outdoor activities to reinforce aspects of high performing teamwork and also give the participants a practical opportunity to coach each other while out their “comfort zone’!

Nu-Lec
Nu-Lec Industries is a Brisbane based electrical switchgear manufacturing company and part of the multi-national Schneider Group. Outdoor Insights was asked to design a program that would accelerate the forming and development of the new Executive Management Team. The program was based at Clear Mountain Resort approximately 1 hour north of Brisbane.

This senior team had gone through some significant changes in the last year, with several new recruits, including the Research & Development Manager who had not even started yet but flew in from New Zealand to meet his new colleagues and be part of the program!

The two-day program used the Team Management Systems- Individual Profile as the base for the participants to gain a better understanding of self and others and also gain a greater understanding of the team make-up as a whole. The “Linking Skills” from the Profiles were explored to allow the participants to understand each other’s preferred communication styles. The Battery Game-a team activity that focuses on process improvement and quality.

Outdoor experiential activities in the scenic grounds of the resort were used to support the indoor sessions. Activities included the ‘Battery Game’, an involving activity involving the breakdown and re-build of a seemingly simple piece of equipment that commits focus on quality and continuous improvement.

NRM FacilitatorsTeam Management Systems are used as powerfull team development program

Following a successful Outdoor Insights program run for 130 delegates at the Department of Infrastructure, Planning & Natural Resources-National Resource Management-Facilitators conference held in Canberra in March. Outdoor Insights was invited to run a follow-up two-day staff development program for NSW National Resources Management Facilitators and Catchment Managers.

The program was based from the Pacific Resort Coffs Harbour. Outdoor Insights used the Team Management Systems-Individual Profile to help the participants understand better work preferences, the dynamics of team problem solving and the skills for leading a diverse group. This theory was then supported with a range of outdoor experiential problem solving activities to highlight and develop team communication and leadership skills.
