Brief profiles of key Outdoor Insights staff...
Bob Killip- Managing Director
Bob’s involvement in experiential learning began
in 1981 when experiential training was first being introduced to the
corporate world in Australia. At that time he was struck with the
incredible potential that outdoor experiential training has to offer to
the lives of participants and to their work effectiveness within their
companies.Bob established Outdoor Insights in 1990 and has maintained an active "hands-on" role as trainer, as well as development of new training programs to meet the changing needs of business clients. Bob is proud of the team he had been able attract to Outdoor Insights, with a broad range of training expertise.
Bob has an extensive climbing and mountaineering experience from around the world including five expeditions to 8000m peaks in Nepal and Tibet. In 2001 Bob was Expedition Manager of the successful Australian Army Alpine Expedition to climb Mount Everest and returned to reach the summit himself in 2006.
Andy Halliday
Andy's role as a Director and Training Consultant with Outdoor Insights, combines his passion for working with people in the outdoor environment with practical management and team leadership experience. Andy has worked in the recruitment industry for over 12 years in UK and Australia, holding training, business development and senior management level positions with small and multi-national companies.
Andy is still an active participant in a wide range of outdoor activities and multi-discipline adventure racing events, and has competed at an international level in the sport of Canoe Slalom.
Zac Zaharias-Director Canberra Office
Zac brings a wealth of small team leadership experience, through his work over four years at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra, numerous military assignments leading small diverse teams including UN operational service in Kashmir with 8 other nations as well as through his passion for mountaineering where he has led many expeditions to the Himalaya including the successful Centenary of Federation 2001 Everest Expedition.
Zac is a regular keynote speaker at Corporate Seminars and his presentation titled "Leadership in Adversity" is widely acclaimed as a case study for leaders and potential leaders.
Qualifications include a Masters degree in Instructional Systems Design from Florida State University. Zac’s tertiary education brings to Outdoor Insights an ability to conduct Training Needs Analysis as well as design, develop and evaluate training programs tailored to the specific needs of clients. Zac is an accredited facilitator with TMS Team Management Profile, QO2, Windows on Work Values as well as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and DiSC.
Laurie Stark
Laurie has worked with Outdoor Insights for over 10 years and has a wealth of experience in the direction of experiential training programs and holds accreditation to deliver a number of psychometric tools including DiSC and TMS (Team Management Systems) suite of instruments.
Tanya Bylart
Tanya
has a passion for all outdoors activities and is a life long student of
motivation and behaviour. Tanya first became involved with Outdoor
Insights in 1999 after meeting Bob Killip on a mountaineering
expedition to Shishapangma – an 8,000m mountain in Tibet. Tanya has
worked as a facilitator for outdoor insights on numerous programs since
1999 A registered nurse in the operating theatre most of the time, Tanya has also pursued many and varied goals in the outdoor environment. Tanya was in the Army Reserves for 13 years and completed Officer Training to work as a Captain in the Signals Corps. During this time in the Army, Tanya trained for and completed the Commando Selection Course. After getting through Commando Selection, Tanya completed the Commando Basic Course and Special Forces Parachute training to become the only woman in the Reserves to earn the Commando Green Beret.
Spending time in nature is a strong driving force
in Tanya’s life and spending time in the mountains are a common theme
for any spare time. Tanya has climbed in New Zealand, Alaska, Italy,
Pakistan, Nepal and Tibet. The highlight of Tanya’s mountaineering
career was in 2001 when she attempted Mt Everest and made it to just
350m from the summit. Finding a balance between Outdoor Insights
facilitator, Nursing and playing in the mountains, Tanya lives in
Albury N.S.W. where she can be close to her family.
Nic McHutchison
From a young age Nic has always been passionate about outdoor activities. He has always found great pleasure in introducing people to the outdoors and encouraging personal development in this inspiring environment. Nic completed a Bachelor of Arts in Outdoor Education in 2000. Since then he has become an experienced outdoor educator working with students, special needs and corporate groups achieving a variety of outcomes through experiential learning.
Nic has travelled and worked in Canada as a ski instructor and sea kayak guide and during travels around Africa he assisted in evaluating and revitalizing a white water rafting company on the Zambezi River. This included training new managers and developing business procedures.
Nic is currently employed by CanTeen and develops and leads programs for young people living with cancer. Nic lives in Canberra and has been a casual employee of Outdoor Insights for over 12 months, his personal interests include back-country skiing, surfing, fishing and paddling.

Arthur Lidbetter
Arthur brings his love for the outdoors, experience in empowering
youth through solution focused debriefing, narrative therapy techniques
and knowledge of group dynamics to his work as a facilitator for
Outdoor Insights.Arthur Lidbetter has a diverse employment background, ranging from a Butler at one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World in London to Coordinator of Therapeutic Wilderness Programs for at-risk adolescents. An early start as a Sales Representative for a sports company lead to management roles in numerous organisations including the establishment of a youth service for a national charity in the ACT.
A love of exploring the outdoors and sharing this passion with others became a career in 1992. He has worked throughout Australia in personal development and wilderness programs since this time.
Arthur has been a regular facilitator with Outdoor Insights since 2000. At present he is studying for a Masters of Education at Wollongong University.
Dave Simpson
Dave is a highly skilled facilitator with experience in providing process leadership for manufacturing, banking, finance, IT, health, logistics, educational, social service and public organisations. His highly developed interpersonal communications skills have enabled him to focus organisational planning teams and groups to achieve outcomes while simultaneously building consensus.Qualifications and expertise include: Master of Management Studies (Human Resource Management), Graduate Diploma in Strategic Studies, Myers Briggs Type Indicator Administrator, Practitioner’s Certificate in Mediation, Licensed trainer ‘Clear Leadership’®, Facilitator of ‘Appreciative Inquiry.’
Dave is based in Canberra where he runs his own HR Consulting Company and has worked a casual facilitator for Outdoor Insights for over 10 years.
