Celebrating 21 Years
Established in January 1990, Outdoor Insights is proud to be celebrating its 21st Birthday this year. We would like to thank our valuable clients for their support over the years. Bob Killip is back as the Managing Director and we are looking forward to continuing our success as a leading training provider.
This year has been a particularly busy one with multiple programs delivered in diverse locations and venues, from a Program for Epi-Use in Brisbane to our Lodge based wilderness programs in Kangaroo Valley and our ongoing Personal Development Program for Exxon at Campaspe House, Victoria. We are particularly excited about a new venue, Avrajita. Avrajita offers modern and comfortable facilities for up to 24 delegates in the heart of beautiful Kangaroo Valley. Geoscience Australia and HSBC both enjoyed two wonderful days experiencing the delights of what the Valley has to offer.
AGSM March 2011
Our bi-annual intensive wilderness based Practical Leadership Program was another great success for the full-time MBA program from the Australian Graduate School of Management. With 20 students, 3 facilitators, and a number of support staff, this Program is set in a picturesque corner of Morton National Park in Kangaroo Valley. In spite of inclement weather, the students were challenged through a number of complex scenarios that tested their leadership skills and brought to life the theory covered in the classroom by Senior Lecturer Dr Jaco Lok.
Australian Sports Commission
Everest Summiteer and Outdoor Insights Director, Zac Zaharias, delivered his Keynote presentation titled "Leadership in Adversity" to an Olympic Coaches breakfast at the Australian Institute of Sport in May.
The audience of 40 Olympic/AIS coaches, managers and sports administrators were enthralled by the many lessons about leadership and building high performance teams. Ray Dorsett, the AIS Coach Services Coordinator felt that all attendees were able to take away some powerful lessons that they could apply to their respective sports.
Trainee Induction Program
An Induction Day for trainees recruited into the Defence Materiel Organisation was conducted at University House, Canberra in March. 36 trainees along with their supervisors were taken through a series of scenarios, followed by lengthy discussions on the dynamics within teams. The day's learning focused on the importance of planning and effective problem solving as being central to effective teamwork. The program is very popular within DMO and has been credited for providing a positive start for trainees as they begin their career within the Scheduling Environment within the DMO.
Geoscience Australia
We ran a Team development weekend at Avrajita, Kangaroo Valley for Geoscience Australia. The program was a combination of adventurous activities, including orienteering, mountain bike riding, abseiling and canoeing, combined with Team Management Profile revision exploring the team dynamics and preferences, and facilitated business conversations. The program also included a discussion on Team Values, which proved incredibly useful upon their return to work. It was an action packed two days in an idyllic location.
