corporate team building programs
Outdoor Insights Newsletter-Autumn/Winter 07
The quieter winter months give us a chance to catch our breath and reflect on the varied people we have worked with in the recent months! Of the many different programs we have run in the last six months, some of the highlights have included: -
Bankstown Hospital- Cancer Survivors Program
Beryl Driscoll, a Registered Nurse in the Oncology Unit of Bankstown Hospital has contacted Outdoor Insights back in December 2004 to see if we could design and a run a program for a group of women cancer survivors! Some two and half years later, Beryl's perseverance paid off as she arrived in Kangaroo Valley with 5 staff members and 10 cancer survivors for a very special weekend.

| Abseiling, an opportunity to step out of the 'Comfort Zone' |
The program included a carefully selected combination of challenging and engaging individual and group tasks requiring initiative, problem solving, teamwork and planning. Participants were encouraged to step out of their "comfort zone" to try new activities and challenge themselves in a physical and emotionally safe environment. Beryl commented afterwards:
"A common thread of the weekend was to never give up and always be positive. We took them out of their comfort zones and when it came down to it they were able to do incredible things!"
"They learnt a lot about themselves and found strength they didn't know they had"

RACQ
Scope: We wew approached to run a team development program for a group of 8 Team Leaders in the RACQ claims call centre. The required outcomes were: -
- To provide the participants a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of themselves and their colleagues, building empathy for the differences.
- An insight into what is an effective team and how to build this.
- Greater understanding of how to communicate effectively with other team members to avoid conflict.
The program was run in the grounds of the RACQ's head office, south of Brisbane. Outdoor Insights used the Team Management Systems-Individual Profile to help the participants understand better work preferences, the dynamics of team problem solving and the skills for leading a diverse group.
This theory was then supported with a range of outdoor experiential problem solving activities to highlight and develop team communication and leadership skills.
This program was followed up with a series of exercises for the
participants to apply the learning back in their workplace.
NEW FOR 2007- Outdoor Insights staff have been accredited to run the recently released TMS product, Communication and Problem Solving at Work. To find out more about this powerful new tool, please Contact Us.

| Rescue of a rare 'Werri Beach' Giant Penguin! |
Outdoor Insights met this challenge by designing the "Amazing Werri Beach Race"
Starting from the hotel, the group was split into six teams who were set off racing each other around the picturesque Werri Beach. On the journey they have to undertake a range of fun and unusual team activities.
This included rescuing Giant Penguins from the lagoon, wine tasting, solving cryptic clues, building wheelbarrows and painting a 'masterpiece'!
The format of the afternoon was very successful, with the winning team having to utilise the combined talents of all their team members to succeed.
